A new feature has been added (since version 3.029 or greater) that allows you to control the contour line type at generation time. This makes it simpler to create minor and major contours with two passes of the Edit-Calculate Terrain Model operation.

The first time you use Edit-Calculate Terrain Model, click the "+" button beside Calculate contours and set the line type and color for you minor contours. Ensure that both Calculate contours and Remove all existing contours are checked. Set the Interval to the minor contour spacing and turn off the Labeling option.

After the minor contours are created, use Edit-Calculate Terrain Model again to create major contours. Click the "+" button beside Calculate contours and set the line type for your Major contours. Ensure that Calculate contours is checked (it is not necessary to re-calculate triangles) and that Remove all existing contours is not checked (or else your minor contours will be removed). Set the Interval to the major contour spacing, set the Start elevation to a multiple of your major spacing and turn on the Labeling option.

Note that contours are often removed when you re-calculate the terrain model, so do not create final contours until you are sure there will be no more changes to the model.
